  17. ALL USERS
  18. ---------
  19. ITEM A:
  20. -The INSTALL DISKETTE must NOT be write protected to install program!
  21.  
  22. -DO NOT install this program into the same directory as you are 
  23.  installing from.
  24.  
  25. -DO NOT install this program into the root directory of any drive.
  26.  (It must be installed into a subdirectory.) 
  27.  
  28. ITEM B:
  29. -Know Your Stuff was created with Microsoft's Visual Basic v2.0.
  30.  Therefore, you will need to have a copy of the file named VBRUN200.DLL
  31.  in your \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.  (If you check those
  32.  directories you may find it is already there.) Some releases of
  33.  Know Your Stuff come with VBRUN200.DLL and some do not in order to
  34.  make downloading from electronic bulletin boards quicker and in order to
  35.  distribute it on the smallest diskette possible.  If you know that you
  36.  already have VBRUN200.DLL in your \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory
  37.  then skip down to the next item. If you do not have VBRUN200.DLL or you
  38.  are not sure, then:
  39.  
  40.      As just stated, this release of Know Your Stuff may or may
  41.      not have it included.  In any case, to find out whether or not
  42.      you need that file, follow the installation instructions below.
  43.      When executing STEP 3 below, if you receive a message that
  44.      specifically says:
  45.  
  46.                 FILE ERROR
  47.              CANNOT FIND VBRUN200.DLL
  48.  
  49.      then you do need that file.  Usually it can be easily located on
  50.      most any electronic bulletin board, including the DODDger
  51.      Software BBS (phone number is listed above).  It can also be
  52.      found on CompuServe in the MSBASIC forum, Library 5.  The
  53.      filename to download from Library 5 is VBRUN2.ZIP (220kb).
  54.      When you get VBRUN200.DLL, put it in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory
  55.      and try installing again.  If you cannot locate a copy of
  56.      VBRUN200.DLL, I will send you the latest unregistered release of
  57.      Know Your Stuff (with VBRUN200.DLL on it and ready to install) for
  58.      $2.50 to cover disk, postage, and handling.
  59.  
  60. ITEM C:
  61. -If you receive a message during setup informing you that you must close
  62.  (quit) all programs written is Visual Basic that are currently active,
  63.  then the big question is which program(s) are they.  Most likely neither
  64.  you or I know.  You will have to start closing programs until you no longer
  65.  receive that message.  It is unlikely that any of the programs that came 
  66.  with Windows were written in Visual Basic.  After quitting all programs 
  67.  that were written in Visual Basic then you should no longer receive that
  68.  message.  This only happens during setup.
  69.  
  70. USERS RUNNING A SHELL IN WINDOWS OTHER THAN PROGRAM MANAGER
  71. -----------------------------------------------------------
  72. -If you are running any other menu shell besides Program Manager in Windows,
  73.  it will be necessary to have Program Manager running (loaded) BEFORE
  74.  installation. (The command to run Program Manager is PROGMAN.EXE.)
  75.  Also, at the end of the installation, if are asked whether to LOAD the
  76.  program group from the disk or CREATE a new program group or
  77.  something similar, you must quickly (within a few seconds) select or
  78.  indicate that you want to CREATE the program group.  After installation,
  79.  PROGRAM MANAGER should no longer be necessary to run Know Your Stuff.
  80.  
  81. NORTON DESKTOP FOR WINDOWS USERS
  82. --------------------------------
  83. -If you are using Norton Desktop for Windows in lieu of Program Manager,
  84.  then BEFORE you begin installation, you MUST have Program Manager running
  85.  (loaded).  To do this select FILE from the Norton Desktop menu (a menu
  86.  will appear).  Now select RUN from that menu.  A command line input box
  87.  will appear, type in PROGMAN.EXE and press <ENTER>.
  88. -Also, at the end of the installation, Norton Desktop will ask if you want
  89.  to LOAD the program group from the disk or CREATE a new program group.
  90.  You must quickly (within a few seconds) select CREATE.  After installation,
  91.  PROGRAM MANAGER will no longer be necessary to run Know Your Stuff.

  93. KNOW YOUR STUFF for WINDOWS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

  95. A) Read this complete file before proceeding. (This step is important!)
  96.  
  97. B) From Program Manager:
  98.  
  99.    STEP 1: Select FILE from the main menu bar across the top.
  100.        (A menu will appear.)
  101.  
  102.    STEP 2: Select RUN from the menu that appeared.
  103.        (A command line input box will appear.)
  104.  
  105.    STEP 3: Type in the Path (Drive & Directory) where the
  106.        Know Your Stuff installation files are located and
  107.        the filename, SETUP.EXE, and press <ENTER>.
  108.        For example, if installation files are in the root
  109.        directory of diskette A:\, type:
  110.  
  111.                A:\SETUP.EXE  <ENTER>
  112.  
  113.        ------------------------------------------------------------
  114.        |-NOTE:  If you receive a message that specifically says:  |
  115.        |                                                          |
  116.        |                      FILE ERROR                          |
  117.        |                CANNOT FIND VBRUN200.DLL                  |

  119.        | then see the section above under ALL USERS - ITEM B.     |

  123.      |-NOTE:  If you receive a message that specifically says:      |
  124.      |                                                              |
  125.      |        ERROR:  COULD NOT COPY FILE:  VBRUN200.DLL >          |
  126.      |              C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VBRUN200.DLL                  |
  127.      |                                                              |
  128.      | then most likely the problem is:  On some systems, when the  |
  129.      | VBRUN200.DLL file is already present it will not be allowed  | 
  130.      | to be overwritten,  henceforth the error message.  (However, |
  131.      | there could be other unknown reasons for this message!)  To  |
  132.      | solve this problem, we will not uncompress and copy the      |
  133.      | VBRUN200.DL_ file during setup.  So, do this:                |
  134.      |                                                              |
  135.      |   A) Log onto the drive and directory containing the         |
  136.      |      installation files.  For example:                       |
  137.      |                                                              |
  138.      |            A:\  <ENTER>                                      |
  139.      |                                                              |
  140.      |   B) Copy the SETUP.NVB file as SETUP.LST.  For example:     |
  141.      |                                                              |
  142.      |            COPY SETUP.NVB SETUP.LST  <ENTER>                 |
  143.      |                                                              |
  144.      |   C) Go to STEP 1                                            |

  147.    STEP 4: When the installation is finished, you should find a program
  148.        group with a Know Your Stuff icon.  Double click on that
  149.        icon to run Know Your Stuff.
